Dr. Shashank Ranjan
Shashank Ranjan is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering at University of Florida where he is part of the Graphics, Imaging & Light Measurement Laboratory (GILMLab). He earned his Bachelor of Technology degree from National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NIT Warangal), India and a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from University of Florida. Prior to joining UF, he worked as a Software Engineer at Informatica Corp.
Shashank’s research areas are Computer Graphics, Multispectral Imaging, 3D Displays and Non-photorealistic Rendering. His master’s thesis work focused on developing an algorithm for leveraging the additional information provided by multispectral data to create biological illustrations of shell fossils.
After completing his bachelor’s degree from NIT Warangal, Shashank spent two years working as a Software Engineer on the User Interface Team at Informatica Corp. in Hyderabad, India. He was responsible for designing and developing user interfaces for their browser-based products. While at Informatica, he participated and twice won the Innovation Days Competition, an annual intra-company 24-hour hacking marathon. He worked with the executives, designers, developers and the customer care team to develop new software and technologies and improve the existing solutions for the database software industry.
In collaboration with the Florida Museum of Natural History and under the guidance of Dr. Corey Toler-Franklin, Director, GILMLab, UF (advisor), Shashank is developing new algorithms for acquisition, processing, visualization and display of multi-spectral data for applications in the fields of biology, paleontology and archaeology.
